THE RECRUITING PROCESS
College football recruiting is a process—not an event. Here’s how it actually works, what coaches look for at each stage, and how we help athletes navigate it clearly.
WHAT COACHES ACTUALLY LOOK FOR
Most families focus on exposure—camps, highlight reels, recruiting platforms. Those tools can help, but only when they’re deployed at the right time with the right positioning. Coaches make decisions based on fit + clear evidence, not volume of contact.
Evidence, Not Hype
Film context, measurable relevance, and consistency—presented so a coach can evaluate quickly. A strong highlight without context is noise.
Fit, Not Fame
Right level, right program needs, right roster timing. A D1 school with no roster need is a dead end—even for a talented athlete.
Reliability
Academic baseline, communication, and coachable presentation. Coaches recruit the whole person—not just the film.
THE 4-PHASE PROCESS
A structured approach that matches your athlete’s profile to the right opportunities—and keeps momentum at every stage.
WHAT MATTERS, WHEN
Recruiting windows move whether families feel ready or not. Here’s what to prioritize at each stage.
Build the Foundation
- Start core GPA tracking
- Get measurables on paper
- Understand eligibility rules (NCAA/NAIA)
- Identify position fit
Define the Target
- Map realistic level range
- Start film library
- Attend targeted camps
- Begin coach research
Execute Outreach
- Build program target list
- Finalize highlight film
- Direct coach outreach
- Campus visits begin
Evaluate & Decide
- Interpret offers correctly
- Official visit preparation
- Compare programs clearly
- Sign with confidence
If it’s already junior or senior year— the plan changes, not the possibility. A focused approach at any stage can still open real doors at the right level.
WHAT “RECRUITABLE” ACTUALLY MEANS
“Recruitable” isn’t a yes or no—it’s a match question. Coaches recruit for specific positions, specific measurables, specific timelines. The first job is figuring out where that match exists, then making it easy for a coach to see it.
What coaches evaluate
- Position fit — does the body type and skill set match the role?
- Measurables — how do the numbers compare to current roster?
- Film clarity — can a coach evaluate quickly?
- Academic eligibility — is the student on track to qualify?
- Timeline — does the class year match an open roster spot?
Common family mistakes
- Targeting level without checking roster needs
- Sending film without measurables or context
- Attending camps at schools that don’t recruit your position
- Waiting for coaches to “find” the athlete
- Misreading early interest as a committed offer
TOOLS VS. STRATEGY
Highlight videos, camps, and recruiting platforms all have value—but only when they’re part of a plan. Here’s where families often run into trouble.
COMMON QUESTIONS
WANT TO TALK THROUGH
YOUR ATHLETE’S SITUATION?
A consultation is a conversation—not a pitch. We’ll look at where your athlete is right now, what level is realistic, and what to do first. If we’re not the right fit, we’ll tell you that too.
